Big changes will soon come to the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown.
The Ohio Controlling Board has approved $1,256,214 in funding for construction of a new water treatment system at the building.
This money will build a water softener system that will replace an existing piping system, the emove of a non-functioning pump system based on system requirements and location needs and incorporation of all system controls and alarms into the current network.
According to Rep. Lauren McNally, the system will be able to handle the water softening needs of the entire six-story building.
"It is good to see this project moving along," McNally. "Our state inmates are our responsibility, and our goal must always be rehabilitation. Their care while under our care matters."
The $1.2M in capital funds will be awarded to Prout Boiler Heating & Welding Inc. in Youngstown in the fiscal year 2024.
This funding is in addition to $116 thousand announced in May for design services.
