Fire destroys workshop in Mesopotamia Township

At least 14 fire departments responded to a fire in Trumbull  County Wednesday afternoon. 

According to the fire officials, the fire in Mesopotamia Township began around 2 p.m. Wednesday in a workshop on State Route 87 near State Route 534.

Mesopotamia Township Fire Cheif, James Loza, told 21 News that the owner of the workshop placed a fire-brick in a wood-burning stove around 1 p.m. and then left the property to hunt nearby. He then received a call that his building was on fire around an hour later. 

Cheif Loza said the cause of the fire is still unknown. The State Fire Marshal was on scene, and an investigation is now underway. 

According to officials on the scene, no injuries were believed to have resulted from the fire.

Water had to be hauled to the rural scene, with Green, Champion, Bloomfield, Newton Falls, Windsor, Hartsgrove, Youngstown Air Base, Lordstown, Parkman, Bristol, Middlefield, Braceville, Farmington, and Mesopotamia Fire Departments all responding to the scene.

The building was destroyed in the fire.
