The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced on Thursday that crews are set to begin improvements to State Route 170 in New Middletown beginning in the spring of 2024.

Work will consist of resurfacing SR-170 from New Middletown's Southern corporation limit to East New Middletown Road and pavement repairs and resurfacing between East Middletown Road to East Calla Road.

Additionally, work will include upgrading the drainage system and implementing access management.

Tree work is scheduled to begin in late 2023 and construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2024. Construction is expected to last about two years.

During construction, there will be several impacts to traffic. Beginning in spring, Route 170 will be closed to truck traffic between East Middletown Road and East Calla Road in both directions.

All truck traffic will be detoured via SR-617, SR-165, SR-626, SR-7 and US-224. The northbound lanes will still be open for vehicular through traffic only.

The route will be closed to all through traffic in the southbound lanes during this time. Southbound vehicular traffic will be detoured via US-224 to SR-7 to SR-626 to SR-617. Access for local traffic will be maintained.

Between the summer and early fall of 2024, reconstruction of the SR-170/East Middletown Road intersection will require a short-term closure of the west side of the intersection. This closure will last for 30 days.

Between the spring and summer of 2025, reconstruction of the SR-170/Struthers Road intersection will require a short-term closure to the intersection. This closure will last for 30 days.

Between the summer and fall of 2025, reconstruction of the SR-170/Sycamore Drive, Woodland Drive, Ohlin Drive, Foster Drive intersection will require a short-term closure of the intersection. This closure will last for 75 days.

Also during this time, reconstruction of the SR-170/East Calla Road intersection will require a short-term closure of the west side of the intersection, which will last 30 days.
