Police in Youngstown continue to investigate a shooting and subsequent roll over crash on I-680 over the weekend.

It happened around 6 p.m. Saturday near the Shirley Road exit. When police arrived, they found a white Dodge Challenger flipped onto its roof. Police say EMTs were already treating the three victims by the time they got to the scene.

The male driver of the car was shot twice and a female passenger was shot once. A child in the backseat of the car was injured from the crash, but did not sustain any gunshot wounds.

The female victim told police that she heard gunshots, but did not see who was shooting at them. The male victim was unable to speak to police at the time.

Police say there were at least 5 bullet holes in the vehicle, and detectives recovered several shell casings on the road. The vehicle also had heavy front end damage after striking a concrete median wall, pushing it into the roadway.

Police noted that there was a shot spotter activation right before the crash, alerting to 8 shots coming from the 800 block of Mabel Street. The report notes that those were more than likely the shots that were fired at the victim's car.

All three victims were transported to the hospital, with the male and child in stable condition. The female victim was listed as serious.
