Students and faculty at the Sebring Local School District have teamed up with the community to feed families in need this holiday season.

Together, students, staff and the community collected monetary donations, food and household items to provide over 50 families in the area with holiday meals, food and supplies in a time of need.

According to a press release, B.L. Miller Elementary School hosted its annual Christmas Food Basket Drive putting together laundry baskets filled without household items and boxes of food.

Students, families and staff have been contributing food items every day since the end of November. A total of 53 area families were served.

The drive has been going on for nearly 30 years with third grade teacher Leann Laure launching it with her parents 29 years ago after her first year of teaching with the district.

Back then, Laure recalls putting together baskets for just eight families. Now, she's crediting the helping hands of the village community for making the drive a great success each year.

"It truly takes a village, and Sebring sure does know how to show up for one another. I truly cannot express it enough, this wouldn't be possible without the contributions of so many," Laure said.
