Youngstown man arrested after 90 mph chase across several counties

A Youngstown man allegedly led police on a 90 mph chase that spanned across multiple counties.

Brookfield Police say that after trying to pull over Vaughn Small for driving without a valid driver's license, Small did not stop his car. According to the police report, an officer chased Small down Warner Road and reached speeds up to 90 mph.

Small allegedly hit the passenger corner of a black Dodge Ram while trying to pass the car. Police say that Small drove over a curb to avoid a stopped car at a stop sign while going north on Logan Way.

As Small approached Logan Hill Drive, he allegedly passed workers who were working on power lines at a high speed.

The Police say in the report that they recognized the car as the one frequently driven by Small, and they were able to identify him as the driver when they got next to his car.

The chase continued along State Route 11 until Gypsy Lane. Small allegedly continued onto Route 711 towards Interstate 680 when Ohio State Patrol units took over the chase.

Brookfield Police were told by OSP that chasing Small on foot. OSP said that Small had fled his car causing the vehicle to roll into the grass and nearly hit an apartment building.

Brookfield Police say they found marijuana in the abandoned car.

After reviewing dashcam footage, officers saw they noticed what they described as a black object resembling a firearm fly from the passenger side window of the car. Brookfield Police and OSP went out to the bridge where they saw the object fly from the car.

Police say they found a firearm with no magazine and a .45 caliber bullet in the chamber near the bridge identified in the dash cam footage. The police report says that the gun had hit a tree branch, and pieces of wood were lodged in the barrel.

 

 

According to the police report charges against Small are going to be filed for Failure to comply, having weapons under disability, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle tampering with evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia, receiving stolen property, leaving the scene of a crash, driving under suspension, speeding, and reckless driving. 

Small has not been arrested yet, and the officer who filed the police report says that the case has been turned over to U.S. Marshals.
