An Austintown woman was in court facing charges stemming from allegations that she grabbed her school-age daughters by the hair and pulled one of them over the back of a couch.

Forty-eight-year-old Deanne Hartman was booked into the county jail on Monday, charged with two counts of endangering children and two counts of domestic violence.

According to a report from the sheriff’s office, the charges stem from an investigation that began in May of last year after the Jackson Milton School resource officer reported claims from a student that her mother became angry as she and her sister as the two were sitting on a couch at home.

The girl, whose age wasn’t disclosed in the report, told investigators that their mom smacked the phone from her hand, grabbed her hair, and pulled her over the back of the couch to the ground before allegedly placing her hands around the child’s neck.

The report says the girl had bruises and scratches on her face and neck.

Hartman also allegedly grabbed the other sister by the hair but was unable to lift her over the couch.

The report does not say why Hartman wasn’t charged until eight months after the alleged incident.

Another court hearing is scheduled for later this month.  In the meantime, Hartman is not permitted to have contact with the alleged victims.
