A North Jackson man has been arrested after allegedly entering Boardman High School with a firearm while intoxicated on Wednesday.
According to a police report from Boardman PD, officers were dispatched to the 8300 Block of Hitchcock Road just before 5:30 p.m. in reference to a man identified as 43-year-old Christian Williams fleeing the scene of an accident on foot.
Police say Williams's vehicle had struck several mailboxes and fled the scene.
After searching for Williams's vehicle for a bit, police came across it on the 500 Block of Green Garden Drive. Police say Williams was believed to be in possession of a gun due to ammunition and firearm equipment being found in his car at the scene.
About an hour later, police received a call from a Boardman High School teacher that an intoxicated man, later identified as Williams, entered the school carrying a gun.
Upon arrival, police spoke to the teacher who said he saw Williams sitting beside the entrance with Williams allegedly following him inside the building when he opened the door.
The teacher told police he initially thought this man to be a parent of a band student since numerous parents and band students were there for a band performance, but became suspicious once Williams began crouching on the ground and going through mail he carried into the building.
Police say this is when the teacher noticed the firearm and confronted Williams and told him he could not have it on school grounds even with a concealed carry permit.
Police say the teacher was eventually able to get Williams out of the school with the help of other adults in the building and was about to lock down the school, but police say Williams had been caught just before that happened.
Willaims was placed under arrest and charged with using weapons while intoxicates, illegal conveyance of a firearm in a school zone, inducing panic and drug paraphernalia.
Police say Williams had taken Fentanyl and benzodiazepines and was starting to overdose
