A Southington man learned his fate in court on Tuesday for attacking a police officer at Sheetz in Warren last January.
According to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office, 49-year-old Larry Owens was handed a sentence of nine months in prison on one count of assault on a police officer.
The charge stems from an incident in January of 2023 at a Sheetz store on East Market Street in Warren, where police say between 30 and 35 people were gathered around drinking and smoking.
Police say the group was repeatedly asked to leave the premises, but they refused, prompting a police response. When police tried to break up the crowd, Owens punched one of the officers in the eye.
According to the prosecutor's office, Owens was not eligible for parole due to his criminal history and the seriousness of the offense.
