Choffin dental students give free care to area kids

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -
Choffin Career & Technical Center's Dental Assisting School was working hard Friday to give kids a better smile.
The annual event provides free dental care to underserved kids in the Valley.
According to the Center for Disease Control, nearly one in four children under the age of five already has cavities and many children enrolled in Medicaid receive no dental services.
"It can go upward of $50,000 worth of services that we're giving them," Sherry Cross, Assistant Principal Director of Choffin Adult Education, said. "We're giving them x-rays, fillings and cleanings. A lot of kids here can't afford to have these services so it's great to bring them all in during the school day and get them the services."
The program launched back in 2003 and has helped hundreds of kids each year feel confident in their smiles.
