State Troopers say alcohol may have been a contributing factor in a crash that claimed the life of a Salem woman and knocked out power early Sunday.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol and members of the Winona Fire Department were called out at 2:30 a.m. after an SUV driven by 22-year-old Chloe Chappell veered off Salem Grange Road, striking a culvert and a utility pole before overturning near Conkle Road in Salem Township.
Although Chappell was wearing a seat belt, authorities say she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Firefighters say power lines were brought down, closing the stretch of road for more than an hour.
The investigation into the crash continues.
