The YSU Foundation has released a statement on a recent security incident that led to some donors having their personal information compromised.

According to the release, DonorPerfect, a web-based fundraising software, found suspicious activity in a subsection of its file storage.

The YSU Foundation was told about the suspicious activity on February 2. Letters were sent out to those who were possibly affected immediately after they were made aware.

The YSU Foundation says DonorPerfect took steps to identify, contain and fix the issue. The company locked down its systems and added a number of safety protocols to minimize the risk of a similar incident happening again.

The FBI and local police were also contacted about the breach and are investigating.

DonorPerfect is providing credit monitoring services to those affected, including 12 months of credit monitoring, identity protection, a $1 million identity fraud loss reimbursement policy and fully managed identity theft recovery services.
