We're learning more details on a police chase that resulted in a crash that sent one person to the hospital on Tuesday on Youngstown's north side.
According to a police report, the chase started when an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Woodcrest Avenue and Bennington Avenue when a driver, later identified as Raymond Ortiz failed to stop at a stop sign as well as use a turn signal.
Police say Ortiz did not stop and instead initiated a police chase by traveling at a high rate of speed disregarding traffic signals and passing other vehicles in the process.
Police say the chase took officers through the east side, south side and north side before finally ending when Ortiz ran a stop sign and struck another vehicle. Police say everyone involved in the accident either sustained minor injuries or no injuries at all.
According to the report, Ortiz sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital. Officers found a large bookbag with three large bags of marijuana inside the vehicle.
Police say Ortiz had 76 grams of marijuana, which is just over the legal limit in Ohio, which is 71 grams.
Ortiz is currently facing charges of failure to comply with the signal or order of a police officer, and is also facing citations for driving under suspension, right of way violation, knowingly possessing marijuana and stop sign and turn signal violations.
Police say Ortiz also had a warrant out of Campbell.
Charges are filed in the Youngstown Municipal Court, but court date has been set for Ortiz at this time.
