Ohio Edison knows why the power went out to hundreds of homes and businesses in Youngstown and Hubbard early Thursday.

Youngstown State University sent out a text early Thursday alerting students and staff that a power outage has left areas around campus without power.

According to FirstEnergy, more than 200 homes and businesses in Youngstown were in the dark as of 7 a.m. due to a raccoon coming in contact with equipment.

The power was back on before 8 a.m.

During that same time, one thousand outages were reported in Trumbull County, with most of those in Hubbard Township.

An Ohio Edison representative told 21 News that the outage was caused by a power line that fell along West Liberty Street.

Power is expected to be restored before 10 a.m.
