After over 25 years of creating memorable milestones in the community, Memories By The Yard is closing its doors at the end of March 2024. The local business specializes in providing festive yard signs for a plethora of occasions, ranging from birthdays to graduations to retirements, helping to create joyful moments for families and friends.
Founded in the fall of 1999 by Debbie and Chris Menci, the business came about from Debbie's desire for a flexible work from home job that allowed her to care for their young children. The couple was inspired by a similar business venture in southern Ohio, and saw an opportunity to bring the celebratory experience to their local area.
Debbie Menci says it's an exciting industry to be in, everyone is always celebrating something.
She recounted how the pandemic unexpectedly fueled their business, with a jump in requests as people sought fun and innovative ways to connect and celebrate their loved ones during a time of isolation. Memories By The Yard says they were booked up for months in advance. Their signs became an integral part of 'car parades' that began popping up in neighborhoods, helping to mark birthdays and milestones in a unique manner.
After posting about their decision to close on social media, Debbie expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from the community that the farewell inspired. Despite rarely reacting with customers face-to-face, as most of the placement and removal of the signs is done under the cover of nightfall, the outpouring of love and appreciation revealed the impact Memories By The Yard has had on people's lives.
"Over the past 25 years helping our customers create, “Memories that will Last a Lifetime” has brought me so much happiness!" Debbie wrote on the business' Facebook. "I wholeheartedly want to say THANK YOU to all our AMAZING & LOYAL customers for supporting our home-based family business."
As they prepare to bid farewell to their beloved business, the Menci family is exploring options to sell the business and its assets, including name, inventory, website and social media accounts. Alternately, they are open to selling just the inventory if a suitable proposal emerges.

Memories By The Yard says it will fulfill all outstanding reservations, including ones that fall after they cease operations on March 31.
