A Youngstown man murdered on the city’s Northside earlier this month had been scheduled to go on trial this spring for a deadly head-on crash in the city.

A report released by police this week says that the body of 26-year-old Tyrone Chatman was found in a bullet-riddled car that crashed into a fence outside the Logan Gas Mart on February 13.

The birth date listed on the report confirms that the victim is the same Tyrone Chatman charged in connection with a deadly, car crash that took place just after 2 a.m. on May 23rd, 2021, on Youngstown’s Westside.

Police say Chatman’s car went left of center along Salt Springs Road, running head-on into an oncoming Nissan Maxima, killing its driver, 27-year-old Charles Boerio of Hubbard.

The crash took place just down the road and on the same night as a shooting at the Torch Bar where five people were shot outside the bar.  Two of the shooting victims died.

Chatman was indicted in connection with the fatal crash on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, failure to stop after an accident, improperly handling firearms, and having weapons under a disability.

Chatman had been scheduled to go on trial the day before he was shot to death. However, according to court records the trial had been delayed until May.

Although Chatman was not charged in connection with the Torch Bar shootings, a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the estate of Charles Boerio alleges that Chatman may have been "fleeing a crime scene for which he may have been involved".

Also named as a defendant in the civil lawsuit is Tiera Fields of Girard, who according to a police report owned the Mercedes Benz that Chatman was driving at the time of the crash.
