A Campbell man has been found guilty of the 2022 homicide of a Youngstown man.
According to the Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office, 47-year-old John Morgan was found guilty of Murder, Voluntary Manslaughter and Felonious Assault.
The charges stem from the murder of 46-year-old Daniel Peek in July of 2022.
“John Morgan was brought to justice today. His ruthless shooting of Daniel Peek was callous. He shot and killed Peek in front of his son and will leave both of their families with a lifetime of sorrow. Morgan will now have to live with the atrocious acts he committed,” said Mahoning County Prosecutor Gina DeGenova.
According to the prosecutor's office, the incident occurred in July of 2022 when Morgan went to Peek's home to pick up his daughter and grandson.
Once he got there, he fired a round from his gun into the ground before getting into a fight with Peek and his son causing him to drop the gun.
Once Morgan found the gun, he picked it up and shot Peek in the back. He was taken to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
No sentencing date has been set for Morgan at this time.
