Five people from New Jersey are in the Mahoning County jail after police say they tried to leave a store in the Shops at Boardman Park without paying for 85 items worth $2,366.
According to a police report, 24-year-old Esthefany Asto, 25-year-old Cristian Rojas, 21-year-old Luchia Pacheco, 21-year-old Jorge Ramos, and 19-year-old Alva Cumari have been charged with theft and possessing criminal tools.
Police blocked the name of the store in the report. The address is 717 Boardman Poland Road.
Store employees told police that the “shoppers” picked up clothing and other merchandise, then used magnets to disarm the store tags before leaving the store one at a time.
The suspects were stopped and searched.
Two other people who were believed to have been with the group were let go after it appeared they had not done anything wrong.
