Ohio Warren Junior Women's League to host free prom dress event at Champion High School

GFWC Ohio Warren Junior Women's League is hosting their annual free prom dress closet event on Thursday, March 14th at Champion High School.

The women's league has been putting on this event at Champion for the last several years. Becky Bucco, the current presiding President and retired school nurse at Champion, helped start the event after she noticed that some of the girls at her school could not attend the prom because of the cost involved with purchasing a dress and other accessories.

Bucco says she noticed a strong need for this type of event and after their first one, the rest was history.

There are over 200 dresses featured in the closet in a variety of sizes, ranging from 00-24. All of the dresses, both long and short, are donated, along accessories such as shoes, purses and jewelry. The closet also has some new, unused make-up the students may take home that was purchased with a bit of the budget that was set aside to fill in the gaps of their donated inventory.

The event is not limited to Champion students, anyone looking for a prom dress is welcome to attend. Students are permitted to take home one long dress and one short dress for free.

Donations are still welcome, so if you would like to donate your old prom or homecoming dress, please reach out to Becky Bucco at becky.bucco@gmail.com, or you can drop your items off at Champion High School.

You can visit the closet on March 14th from 5:00-7:00pm in the Champion High School Flash Zone.
