Beloit will soon have a different set of police officers patrolling the village.
Smith Township will take over policing in Beloit on May 1, 2024.
The Goshen Police Department will continue serving Beloit until then. They began policing there in 2015.
Goshen Police Chief John Calko said his department bid $65,000 for the year and Smith Township bid $45,000.
The Village no longer has a police levy and was not willing to pay the higher amount for the contract.
Chief Calko said losing the bid won't hurt their staffing.
