State funding for developmental disabilities going to Mahoning, Columbiana counties

The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) Community Capital Assistance Program is giving $290,389 to both the Mahoning and Columbiana County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

Of that money, Columbiana County will receive $30,500 while Mahoning County will get $259,889.

According to a news release from State Rep. Lauren McNally, the funding will be used to develop community housing for people with developmental disabilities who are or will be receiving waiver services. This includes people leaving a state-operated developmental center, a private or county-operated intermediate care facility, people who live independently but have complex care needs that make it difficult to receive services outside of care centers or those on the wait list for waiver services.

Here's a break down of what that money will go toward for each county and their mental health facilities:

Columbiana:

• $30,500 in Columbiana County for a kitchen remodel

Mahoning:

• $9,809 for repairing 4" broken sewer line in basement, jackhammer floor
• $10,463 for roof, HVAC renovations
• $21,9000 for roof, HVAC renovations
• $30,850  for roof, HVAC renovations
• $26,300 for a lead abatement project
• $13,640  for flooring replacement
• $8,000 for replacing remaining sewer line and removing and replacing concrete
• $3,492 for bathroom renovations
• $100,350 for purchasing a house
• $35,085 for bathroom and kitchen flooring and paint.

The use of these funds is secured by a 15-year participation contract between the funding recipients and the department.

The Ohio Controlling Board approved 156 projects in 41 counties, totaling $8M in investment around the state.
