April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and the Child Advocacy Center of Lawrence County (CAC) is working to increase awareness of this serious issue.

The lineup of events, the first one being held on April 2, are aimed at helping educate, combat and prevent child abuse, according to the organization.

"...We believe that child abuse is preventable," said CAC Executive Director Jeannette Rice "Our community programs foster strong family support systems, promote positive parenting practices, educate the community about child development and healthy relationships, and provide resources for intervention and support."

Here is the list of events:

In 2021, there were more than five thousand reports of substantiated child abuse and more than two thousand cases of substantiated re-abuse.

"Together, we can work towards a world where every child grows up in a nurturing and secure environment, free from abuse and neglect," Rice said.
