Champion Township officials are currently in talks about transforming a former dance studio into a brand-new community center.
Township Trustee Doug Emerine tells 21 News trustees are looking to turn the vacant 10,000-square-foot property at 240 Marshall Avenue East into a community center, which will also function as a new administrative building for the township.
Emerine says the township administration currently conducts its operations from the township garage on Center Street and the township is in need of an upgrade since the current building is very cramped.
In addition to acting as a new administration building, two rooms in the building would also be available for the community to rent for multiple purposes including banquets, girl/boy scout meetings and more.
There is also be an outdoor green area, which would be used for outdoor events such as a Fourth of July celebration or a Christmas tree lighting event.
Emerine tells us the township still has around $257,000 in ARP funds and plans to use that money to pay for the building, but it is too soon to say how much the building will cost since the idea is in its early stages.
We're told an offer should be submitted to the owner of the building within the next two days or so and the project will be discussed at an April 16 meeting.
