Three-and-a-half-hour Powerball drawing delay results in $1.3B winner

A three-and-a-half-hour delay and Saturday’s Powerball drawing proved to be worth the wait for someone in Oregon.

Lottery officials in that state report that one ticket was sold with the winning white ball numbers 22, 27, 44, 52, 69, red ball 09, and Power Play multiplier 3X.

That ticket is worth an estimated $1.326 billion or $621.0 million cash.

Officials announced that the drawing scheduled for 10:59 p.m.  Saturday was delayed because a participating lottery in one state needed additional time to complete required pre-draw procedures, which were put in place to protect the security and integrity of the Powerball game.

Powerball game rules require that every ticket sold nationwide be checked and verified against two different computer systems before the winning numbers are drawn. This ensures that every ticket sold for the Powerball drawing has been accounted for and has an equal chance of winning.

The next Powerball drawing, scheduled for Monday, April 8th, has an estimated jackpot of $20 million and can be seen on 21 News at 11.
