Just weeks after opening for the season, Cedar Point has announced an “extended closure” of its new Top Thrill 2 ride.
In a message posted on social media, the amusement park stated that the roller coaster’s manufacturer is completing what is described as “mechanical modifications” to Top Thrill 2.
Once completed, the modifications will be reviewed before the ride reopens, according to the post.
Cedar Point said it cannot confirm a reopening date but will provide updates at cedarpoint.com.
“We know our guests are excited to experience this incredible roller coaster, and we share your disappointment that we are not able to operate it this weekend. We will do everything possible to reopen Top Thrill 2 as soon as we are confident we can deliver the ride experience that our guests deserve.” Cedar Point said in the statement.
Top Thrill 2 features a 420-foot vertical spike tower with a 101-mph reverse launch, going up at a 90-degree angle.
The repurposed ride repurposes the Top Thrill Dragster roller coaster which closed in the summer of 2021 an object fell from it, striking a woman in the head, requiring her hospitalization.
