Boardman police were dispatched to a hotel parking on South Avenue Saturday morning for a man driving a gray Jeep with a gunshot wound to his leg.
The driver of the Jeep was going through a carwash in the 6400 block of South Avenue and decided to check his gun.
While checking to see if a round was in the chamber of the gun, the weapon discharged and a round fired into the man's right leg.
He exited the car wash and attempted to drive himself to a hospital in Boardman but lost a significant amount of blood and became light-headed.
The injured man was able to call 911 and emergency services responded, taking the man to the hospital by ambulance.
