A Boardman man has reported being the target of a drive-by shooting involving a toy gun in the Raising Canes parking lot on Boardman Poland Rd.
According to the police report, the man was walking from his car to the restaurant when a Black SUV drove past and he was struck in the arm by what the man believed were "Orbeez gun" pellets by the passenger side occupant. The man also reported hearing laughter from the SUV before it drove away.
The responding officer noted in the report that the parking lot surveillance footage was reviewed and the vehicle information passed to officers working in the area at the time.
The man reported that he was not injured, but would pursue charges if the vehicle occupants were identified.
This is not an isolated incident in Boardman, as earlier this year a woman walking out of Kohls at the Shops at Boardman Park reported being shot several times in the back with a toy gun (believed also to be an "Orbeez gun") by a passing car.
Recently, Orbeez water beads have found themselves the center of legal action and legislation, as they can cause injury and intestinal blockages in children if ingested.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a warning urging parents and caregivers to remove water beads from any environment with children 3 years old and younger.
