The Mahoning County OVI Task Force has revealed the exact times and locations of sobriety checkpoints in the county Friday night and Saturday morning.
A news release from the Mahoning County OVI Task Force says local law enforcement agencies will conduct saturation patrols on Friday and Saturday.
In addition, the Task Force says it will hold two sobriety checkpoints, with the first one taking place Friday, May 17 on Youngstown's Westside near the intersection of Mahoning Avenue and Halls Heights from 10:00 a.m. until midnight.
The second will take place on Youngstown's Southside at Glenwood Avenue near Playhouse Lane from 12:30 a.m. until 3:00 a.m.
In 1990 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that holding sobriety checkpoints without first notifying drivers would violate the Constitution's provision barring illegal search and seizure.
However, in their ruling, the justices did not specify what they considered adequate notification.
That same year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration published recommended procedures for OVI checkpoints, including notifying the media of the planned roadblocks.
