Millions in funding potentially coming to Valley in Ohio Capital Budget

The Ohio House of Representatives recently approved Substitute House Bill 2, the state's two-year construction budget for capital projects, which has the potential to bring millions to the Valley.

In total, more than $26 million could come to the Valley, pending a signature by Gov. Mike DeWine. 

Below is a brief list of everything that has the potential to come to the area and where:

MAHONING COUNTY:

• $875,000 for the West Branch Regional Community Education and Wellness Training Center in Mahoning County,
• $750,000 for the expansion and improvement of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society,
• $600,000 for the Campbell access and safety project,
• $650,000 for the Mahoning County Veterans Center,
• $600,000 for Salem Airpark improvements,
• $501,389 for the Youngstown area Jewish Federation building expansion,
• $450,000 for the Mahoning Valley Regional Multi-Jurisdictional Infrastructure Initiative,
• $300,000 for the Boys and Girls Club of Youngstown,
• $238,000 for the Youngstown Playhouse Roof,
• $850,000 for the Sheridan Road multi-use trail,
• $159,131 for the Boys and Girls Club of Oak Hill,
• $103,150 for the Struthers Mauthe Park Splash Pad,
• $450,000 for the Rich Center for Autism Building for Tomorrow to renovate its current space, upgrade facilities, and expand reach throughout Youngstown community,
• $100,000 for the Rich Center for Autism Building for Tomorrow second phase,
• $93,000 for the OCCHA Renovado Capital campaign,
• $60,000 for Canfield's Police Department Drone Program,
• $60,000 for the War Veteran Museum Facility and Program Improvement Project,
• $50,000 for the Austintown 911 Memorial Park, and
• $14,480 for the VFW roof repairs for Ellsworth Post 9571
• $600,000 to replace the roofing system and install a comprehensive fire and intrusion prevention system at the Mahoning Valley Historical Society
• $700,000 to support the Penguin City Brewing Company Upgrade Project,
• $200,000 for the Butler Institute of Art Studio Maker Space, and
• $100,000 for Youngstown Playhouse upgrades

COLUMBIANA COUNTY:

• $2,900,000 for the Columbiana County Annex,
• $2,500,000 for the Utica Shale Academy Improvements,
• $1,000,000 for the East Palestine Village Safety Complex,
• $250,000 for the Hanover Township Fire and Emergency Medical Services Expansion Initiative
• $300,000 to complete the Salem City Village Green Lincoln Plaza
• $150,000 to dredge the Wellsville Marina, ensuring its use by the vibrant community
• $157,011 for the Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail Culvert replacement project
• $100,000 to acquire the 29.09-acre Kerestes Cliffs property. The property contains high-quality young forest habitat adjacent to and along the top of sandstone cliffs utilized as a rock-climbing destination for tourism and recreational activities.

TRUMBULL COUNTY:

• $500,000 to update Eastwood Field, home of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. These funds will replace the field with turf, enclose the batting cages, and upgrade the lighting across the stadium,
• $250,000 to renovate the grandstands at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds, and
• $83,000 to renovate the Copper Penny Building in Vienna as a part of the Vienna Historical Society.

In addition to the funds listed above, Youngstown State University is slated to get $12.7 million, some of which will go to the campus' new student center.
