Police have now charged a motorcyclist accused of leading officers on a six-mile-long case at speeds up to 100 miles per hour through Boardman and Poland before ending in a crash.
The charge stems from an incident early on the morning of May 19, when a Boardman Township officer says he began following a speeding motorcycle from Western Reserve Road onto Interstate 680 northbound.
Police say the motorcycle slowed to exit the interstate, running a red light as it headed east on Route 224 into Poland.
From there, police say speeds along Boardman-Poland Road ranged from 80 to 100 mph until the pursuing officer lost track of the motorcycle when it turned south onto Struthers Road.
Another officer found the motorcycle had crashed into a ditch on Struthers Road. The driver, 57-year-old Richard Shutrump of Boardman was uninjured, other than a few scratches, according to police.
Shutrump was immediately cited for refusing to submit to OVI testing and running the red light.
He was booked into the county jail on Thursday on a new charge of obstructing official business.
