The Ohio EPA is investigating following reports of waste water discharge possibly impacting Saw Mill Creek in Canfield.
Material Sciences Corp., a metal treating facility, is believed to have released waste water into a storm drain, impacting a drainage ditch and a portion of the creek, according to the Ohio EPA.
The EPA said they were notified of the spill on July 11.
The release was stopped and cleanup of the impacted areas are still ongoing.
Additionally, Material Science Corp. is investigating the cause of the release.
Despite this, the EPA states that they observed no impacts to the surrounding wildlife in the area, however an evaluation of the potential impact of the sediment along the ditch line is still being conducted.
Multiple collection areas were installed along the ditch to make cleanup go quickly and maintain containment measures.
Meanwhile, Material Sciences Corp. has been issued a notice of violation for the unauthorized discharge of waste water.
