Aqua Pennsylvania water customers could soon notice an improvement in the taste of their water.
Aqua Pennsylvania broke ground Wednesday for a water improvement project at their treatment plant located on North Water Avenue in Sharon.
Water will flow in from the Shenango river and into a large new basin that will pre-treat the water before it enters the plant.
"In that basin we will remove all of the solids all of the impurities . Viruses in the water will all be removed. At that point the water goes into the filter in the building.," said Aqua PA, President, Marc Lucca.
The result, according to Aqua, will be better tasting water with no odors.
But the costs of this $28 million dollar project will be passed on to the customers.
Aqua has already requested an 18% rate increase with the state utility commission. Aqua says upgrades are needed across their system.
"Pipeline improvement projects, water meter projects, certainly this project, pump stations, many things effect people's rates," Lucca added.
"We're lucky to have a company like Aqua that invests in the system," said Sharon City manager, Bob Fiscus. "In the last decade we've seen a lot of water line investments in the city of Sharon and I'm sure the whole region."
Customers will be able to 'taste the difference' when everything is completed at the end of next year, said Aqua.
