It's a unique and creative way to help feed the hungry.

The first ever 'Canstruction' event took place at the Eastwood Mall, where several teams competed against each other by building sculptures out of canned goods.

The "Structural Integrity" award went to Senior Care Insurance for their ear of corn sculpture, OH WOW! won in the "Best Meal" category for their rocket ship display, and the Second Harvest Food Bank won in the "Best Use of Labels" category for designing the food bank's logo with their cans.

The Cafaro Company also won, taking home the "Best Original Design" award.

The sculptures will be on display throughout the month of August, and mall visitors can vote for their favorite in the "People's Choice" category.

In September, the mall will announce the category winner, and the cans will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

"After deconstruction, and all these cans are taken down, they'll be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, we also encourage folks to come to the Eastwood Mall, donate as well with a canned good, you can bring it to the customer service desk, fill out a slip for people's choice, donate a canned good as well and help out," said Eastwood Mall Director of Marketing and Communications Johnny Chechitelli.

21 News Meteorologist Jimmy Wendolek was an emcee at the event.
