After WARN notices of mass layoffs were filed with Ohio Jobs & Family Services this week, the clock began ticking with a set closure date for Trumbull Regional Medical Center, Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital, and satellite offices in the Valley.
Beyond providing healthcare for the community, the facility also provides 765 jobs, another 168 at Hillside, plus workers at the satellite facilities in Trumbull and Mahoning counties, which in turn helps our cities and local businesses through taxes and payroll.
The five local people looking to take over operations of two of three Valley hospitals—owned by bankrupt Steward Health—are Warren City Hospital, Inc., which has the funds to purchase the facilities but needs startup capital for the first three months of operation.
The United Way of Trumbull County has now added a way for community members to donate to the health facilities.
Anyone wishing to help can go to the United Way of Trumbull County's website and click the 'Save Our Hospital Fund' button on the home page. The donate button is above the home page image on the right.
The page for donation reads: 'The pending closure of one of our two Warren-based, local hospitals has left many in our community concerned about the future. Funds raised here will support the efforts to save our hospital and ensure continued access to care for many in our community.'
The website states, "Donations of ANY amount are welcome and appreciated."
Checks can be made out to United Way of Trumbull County and mailed to 295 Harmon Ave. NW, Warren, OH 44483. Please include "Save Our Hospital" on the memo line.
John Woods, the treasurer of Warren City Hospital Inc. group, told 21 News he is more optimistic about their efforts to save the healthcare facilities than any previous time during this effort.
Woods said the largest donation they have received so far is $2,000.
21 News has reached out to United Way to see how much has been donated since the effort began earlier this week.
