There’s a new spot online where fans can shop for gear emblazoned with the names and numbers of their favorite athletes from YSU and 100 schools around the country.
The Youngstown State NIL Store sells officially licensed apparel that allows YSU student-athletes to cash-in on their name and reputation through the marketing of their name, image, and likeness (NIL).
As of June 2021, the NCAA began permitting athletes to use their name, image, and likeness to benefit from business and other opportunities.
When a fan buys gear from the store, some of the money goes directly into their favorite athlete's pocket.
"This is an awesome opportunity not only for our student-athletes to have their own licensed merchandise, but also for our fans to help support their favorite Penguin,” said NIL Director Tyler Burk.
Each student-athlete's digital locker room includes a collection of core products which feature personalized names and numbers for applicable athletes.
There are jerseys, shirts, hoods, and other apparel from a range of women’s and men’s sports including football, soccer, volleyball, softball, basketball, and others.
The store’s website lists the current best-selling items are from Penguin football standouts Jaison Williams and Tyshon King, as well as basketball player Juwan Maxey.
As part of the NIL Store network, the YSU store is signing up new athletes and developing custom merchandise for individual athletes. All merchandise on the NIL Store is officially licensed by Youngstown State University.
