Optimist Club and Maniacs in the Woods formally cut ties

The Bazetta Cortland Optimist Club and Venture Crew 4054 formally decided to cut ties with each other, following a dispute regarding access to the property.
Maniacs in the Woods has been a Halloween attraction in Trumbull County for seven years. 21 News told you about a letter posted to their Facebook page earlier this week, announcing the annual event would abruptly end after a dispute with the Optimist Club, who lent the space for the event.
For seven years, the Optimist Club allowed the scouting group to access its property for a fundraiser.
The Maniacs in the Woods fundraiser has been held on the Bazetta Cortland Optimist Club's property since its inception seven years ago.
A Facebook post by the Maniacs in the Woods Team says the Bazetta Cortland Optimist Club issued a cease and desist order for Venture Crew 4054 and Maniacs in the Woods. It went on to say the decision was made without any explanation.
The Optimist Club met with Venture Crew 4054 during an emergency board meeting on Friday, which led to the decision to cut ties.
"We met with the Venture Crew 4054 earlier this afternoon and we agreed to find an amiable solution by going separate ways," said Worthy Cottrill Jr., Bazetta Cortland Optimist Club President.
The Optimist Club is also known as the Troops Charter Group. The bank account is under the Optimist Club's name, and the Optimist Club wants to know how that money is used.
"We just want the information so we can properly file our taxes. We want to put the treasurer on the account so we can see what's happening. That is all this is about," said Cottrill. "We're here for the youth, and want to see them succeed, we do."
It is unclear if Maniacs in the Woods will find another location for the upcoming fall season.
