Children who weren’t even born 23 years ago during the 9/11 terror attacks on America gathered to remember the terrible events that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people.

Students and staff at Boardman’s  Stadium Drive Elementary took part in a Patriot Day observance in remembrance of the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Flight 93.

Nearly 400 students from grades K-3 assembled outside the school to hear Boardman Fire Chief Mark Pitzer talk about the firefighters and emergency responders who put their lives on the line in hopes of rescuing victims.

Students also mark the day with a ceremony near one of several trees planted over the years as part of the school's Patriot Day tradition.

Boardman fire and police officers were also there to talk about Patriot Day and the importance of emergency responders
