The Brightside Project has announced that it has purchased the former IGA / Crossroads Ministries building in Salem in order to expand its programs.

According to a post on The Brightside Project's Facebook page, the North Ellsworth Avenue building will allow the non-profit to provide a safe haven where kids can have their basic needs met, receive academic support, build meaningful relationships and explore career pathways and workforce development opportunities.

"It will be a beacon of hope for generations to come, offering social-emotional development & mental health support, and the chance for every child to thrive and have a bright future," the post reads.

The non-profit posted a video to its Facebook page showing their vision for the inside of the building including a multi-purpose room, a multimedia room and classroom, a student lounge, an art studio, a food pantry and more.

Originally, the organization was aiming to purchase the former Donnell Ford building on Continental Drive. While this did not come into fruition, the non-profit says the former IGA building will still offer plenty of perks.

Those perks include lower operational costs, a faster renovation timeline, more manageable space for staff and volunteers, an intimate and welcoming environment, improved accessibility for families, and stronger community ties.

According to the post, the organization is in need of funds to help see this project through to completion. Those interested in donating can do so by clicking here.

Additionally, the organization has an Amazon wish list of things they would like to have in the building. Anyone looking to help with that can view the wish list by clicking here.
