Youngstown to spend $5.97M in ARP funds for park improvements

Youngstown City Council approved Wednesday spending $5.97 million in American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds for park improvements throughout the city. The funds will be used to rehabilitate and upgrade several parks, including Homestead Park, Crandall Park, Lynn Park, Roy Street Park, and others.

The proposed legislation authorizes the Board of Control to advertise for bids and award contracts to the lowest and best bidders responsible for the projects.

The proposed projects include:

• Homestead Park: $440,000
• Crandall Park/Princeton-Market Greenspace: $980,000
• Lynn Park/Falls Park: $1,300,000
• Roy Street Park - West End Field and Pemberton Park: $1,500,000
• Borts Field/Wick Park/Eugenia Atkinson Project: $1,750,000

The specific improvements for each park would be determined during the bidding process but could include upgrades to playgrounds, walking paths, landscaping, and other amenities.

The proposal comes as part of the city's efforts to revitalize its parks and green spaces and provide recreational opportunities for residents.
