The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service is urging consumers to be aware of possible contamination of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products sold at major retailers across the country.
BrucePac, of Durant, Oklahoma is recalling 9,986,245 pounds of products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The recalled items sold under numerous brand names including Dole, Fresh Express, Taylor Farms, Boston Market, Michelina's, Jenny Craig, and Atkins, were sold at retail chains including Walmart, Sam’s Club, Giant Eagle, Meijer, Target, Amazon, Seven Eleven, Aldi, GFS, and Trader Joes.
The recalled products were produced between June 19, 2024, and October 8, 2024, and have been distributed to various retailers and food service establishments nationwide. The products bear the establishment numbers "51205" or "P-51205" inside or under the USDA mark of inspection.
Consumers are urged to check their refrigerators and freezers for any recalled products and discard them immediately.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious illness that primarily affects older adults, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of listeriosis can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. Pregnant women may experience miscarriage, stillbirth, or premature delivery.
FSIS is working with BrucePac to trace the distribution of the recalled products and notify affected retailers and food service establishments. The agency is also investigating the source of the contamination.
