Still waiting for your absentee ballot to arrive? Here's why

21 News received a tip from a concerned voter in Mahoning County after they did not receive their absentee ballot in the mail as scheduled. We reached out to the Mahoning County Board of Elections to find out why.

Mahoning County Board of Elections Director Tom McCabe tells 21 News the first batch of absentee ballots were mailed out a few days late on October 10. Ballots were originally slated to be mailed out on October 8.

McCabe explained this was due to votes for Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein no longer counting in Ohio. The Board of Elections needed to print out notices to include with voters' absentee ballots explaining that a vote for Stein will not be counted.

Furthermore, the second batch has still not been shipped out due to post offices being closed on Monday for Columbus Day. McCabe says the second batch should be mailed out by Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

McCabe says those who have not received their absentee ballots should be patient and that they should have them by the end of the week.
