The Mahoning County Land Reutilzation Corporation has received over $265,000 for a brownfield remediation project in Youngstown.

The Land Bank received $265,100 for the remediation project for 1034 Wick Avenue. The project involves removing universal and hazardous waste including asbestos from the deteriorated structure that was formerly used as an auto parts store.

The property has been vacant for several years and is in significant disrepair with collapsed ceilings and rusted materials.

Remediation work will include asbestos abatement, building demolition and site restoration with clover ground cover. The project is expected to create six new jobs.

The funding is part of $52 million in funding from the Ohio Department of Development's Brownfield Remediation and Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Programs.

Both programs are in their sixth rounds of funding.

Local lawmakers have weighed in on this funding including State Senator Al Cutrona who said allocating funds like this is important to properly rebuild and create economic opportunities throughout the Valley.

Meanwhile, State Representative Lauren McNally says redeveloping a site close to Stambaugh Auditorium and other areas that attract guests is important for long-term goals in the Valley.
