A truck driver suspected of sideswiping a concrete barrier at Truck World in North Jackson, then crashing his tractor-trailer nearly five miles away in Ellsworth Township has been arrested and charged.

Police and deputies found the cab separated from a trailer at Route 45 and Palmyra Road in Ellsworth Township at around 8 a.m. Wednesday.

A woman, still inside the cab, told investigators that the driver, identified as Markel Bufford walked away from the crash.

Officials tell 21 News they believe this is the same truck that struck a concrete barrier at Truck World near I-76 and Bailey Road and a mailbox along Palmyra Road a few minutes earlier.

The side of the trailer, which was ripped open, was leaking bits of shattered glass that it had been carrying. The cab was in a ditch.

Deputies tell 21 News Bufford admitted to using methamphetamine about an hour prior to the incident. He's charged with OVI, possession of narcotics and other miscellaneous traffic offenses including leaving the scene of an accident.

Deputies say a woman in the truck was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. She will not be facing any charges.
