The Youngstown City School District (YCSD) has received more than $43,000 in grants from the Ohio Arts Council.
A representative for YCSD tells 21 News the district received a total of $43,050 in funds from the Ohio Arts Council to support its Artist-in-Residence program.
The funding is part of $22,704,702 in grant funds from the Ohio Arts Council's TeacherArts Ohio Fund to support artists, non-profits, educators and public arts programs across Ohio.
According to a press release, the funds will be used for YCSD's Artist in Residency program led by artist Nova the Rebel.
This year's workshops are "Hip Hop to Being Safe, Respectful and Responsible" and "Rockin' Attendance With Hip Hop.' These programs incorporate key messages of safety, respect, responsibility and the importance of regular school attendance.
YCSD STEAM and Fine Arts Curriculum Supervisor Bridget Lambright-Tommelleo says the district is honored to be among the recipients during a historic moment for arts funding in Ohio.
"These nine grants will allow us to continue providing our scholars with exceptional arts programming, nurturing their creativity and offering them opportunities that build both their artistic and academic skills," Lambright-Tommelleo said.
