Multiple communities in Mahoning and Columbiana Counties will be receiving millions in grant funding to support housing growth in the Mahoning Valley.

The Mahoning County Land Reutilization Corporation will receive $5 million in grants to purchase 19 newly-constructed homes. Additionally, the City of Struthers Land Reutilization Corporation will receive $2.75 million to purchase 10 newly-constructed homes in the City of Struthers.

It is unclear where exactly these newly-constructed homes will be built at this time.

Meanwhile in Columbiana County, the Columbiana County Land Reutilization Corporation will receive $1.65 million for the purchase of six new homes in the Orchard Hill Estates subdivision of Leetonia.

An additional $615,000 was awarded to purchase and rehabilitate six homes in the Village of East Palestine. $435,000 of that will go towards purchasing new homes and the other $180,000 will go towards rehabilitation.

This is part of $25.9 million in grants and planned tax credits from the Ohio Department of Development to create more opportunities for homeownership in Ohio.

The funding is part of round three of the Welcome Home Ohio program, which is investing a total of $100 million in grants to help landbanks purchase, rehabilitate or build qualifying residential properties for income-eligible Ohioans.
