Some primary care offices under Sharon Regional Medical Center are expected to be sold off.

While there has been some uncertainty regarding the offices, four practices which include eight physicians will not close according to the President of Sharon Regional Medical Center Board, Bob Rogalski.

Rogalski said these practices will all be purchased by Meadville Medical Center from Stewardship Health in the future and that the transition will be seamless.

“The situation is very dynamic however MMC representatives have met with the primary care doctors and are working on a potential solution that would preserve access for patients,” an official with Meadville Medical Center told 21 News in a statement.

Rogalski said the primary care offices are based out of several locations including Mercer, PA Hermitage, PA Sharon, PA and some in Ohio. The doctors care for thousands of patients.

“This is great news. Any loss of health care in a rural community is very detrimental to the employees, to the patients, to the community at large,” Ann Coleman, Mercer County Commissioner said. “...We have more hope for what's going to happen in the future and that we’ve been given a path to success.”

The offices are a part of Steward Health which is currently undergoing Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and selling off most of its hospitals in the Mahoning Valley area. Meadville Medical Center has previously voiced interest in buying the Sharon Regional Medical Center Hospital in a separate transaction but have not finalized that deal yet either.

Rogalski did not have a date on when the purchase of the primary care offices will be finalized but assured that none of the offices will close while the deal is being solidified.
