Ohio Senator J.D. Vance will resign from the Senate before his inauguration as Vice President of the United States on January 20.

Governor Mike DeWine received Vance's resignation letter on Thursday. The resignation will go into effect at midnight.

"I would like to express that it has been a tremendous honor and privilege to serve the people of Ohio in the Senate over the past two years," Vance wrote.

Vance was elected into the Senate on November 8, 2022, when he beat out Tim Ryan to take the seat of the retiring incumbent Rob Portman.

January 9 marks 737 days or two years and a week since Vance was sworn into office.

DeWine has not yet selected a replacement for Vance's seat in the Senate as of now.
