A Boardman teen is in trouble with the law after police say he tried to run down one of their officers as he tried to stop him from riding his dirt bike around a neighborhood late Tuesday.

Investigating complaints of noise from a dirt bike around Old Oxford lane near midnight, police began a chase after spotting a motorcycle without lights along Glenwood Avenue near Shields Road.

A second police cruiser joined the pursuit, following the mini-bike down Ridgewood Drive to Market Street, where police say the bike headed south along the northbound lane, eventually moving to a sidewalk before losing control in the parking lot of a business.

After an officer got out of his cruiser, he said the mini-bike headed toward him, running into the officer's legs.

The officer said he punched the rider three or four times before he was able to pull him off the bike and handcuff him on the ground.

The police officer was treated at a hospital for minor leg and hand injuries.

The rider, a 17-year-old boy from Boardman, was charged in juvenile court with assaulting a police officer, obstructing official business, failing to comply with a police order, and resisting arrest.
