The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is taking public comments on a project to replace the Route 19 Bridge in Mercer County.

The public can view an online plans display and leave feedback on a project to replace the bridge that carries Route 19 over Little Shenango River in Perry Township in Mercer County.

The bridge was originally built in 1942 and is rated in poor condition. About 2,100 vehicles use the bridge per day on average.

The project involves improvements through a 1.1-mile section of Route 19, otherwise known as Perry highway, from the intersection with Route 358 to approximately 600 feet north of the intersection with Fredonia Road.

The existing bridge will be removed and replaced with a new concrete structure. Additionally, the hillsides around the bridge will be reinforced to prevent erosion.

Additionally, the project includes repairing one mile of Route 19 with work consisting of milling, base repairs and paving, as well as upgrades to the guide rail.

Work on this project is expected to occur during the 2025 and 2027 construction seasons. During the construction period, a 24.5-mile detour will be in place for about 12 months utilizing Route 358, I-79 and Route 285.

A detour will also be in place for bicyclists on Route 19 using Fredonia Road and Route 358.

The online plans display can be viewed here and comments will be accepted until February 10. If you cannot access the website, you can also email [email protected] or call 814-678-7379.
