The NBA announced today that Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, January 27, through Sunday, February 2. This is Mitchell’s eighth player of the week honor of his career and fifth time as a Cavalier, making him just the second player in franchise history to win the award five or more times (LeBron James – 42). Mitchell’s recent honor also marks the 71st time a Cavalier has ever won the weekly award.

Mitchell has now won the Player of the Week award twice this season, joining teammate Darius Garland, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, and Nikola Jokic as the only players in the NBA to earn the honor multiple times this season.

This past week, Mitchell led the Cavaliers to a perfect 4-0 record, helping improve the team’s overall record to an NBA-best 40-9 this season, the best start in franchise history and tied for the 17th best start in league history. Mitchell averaged a team-high 22.8 points on .533 shooting from the field, .406 shooting from three-point range and .933 from the foul line, 6.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals in just 28.0 minutes per contest. Among Eastern Conference leaders, he ranked first in plus/minus (+91), fourth in three-pointers made (13), fourth in free throw percentage (.933, minimum 10 FTM), 11th in points per game (22.8) and 13th in assists per game (6.0). His .533 clip from the field was the fourth-highest among all East players who averaged at least 20.0 points. Additionally, Mitchell was one of only two players in the entire NBA to average 20.0 points and 6.0 assists while shooting at least .500 from the field, .400 from beyond the arc and .900 from the charity stripe (Tyrese Maxey). The Cavaliers won by 19 points or more in each contest and did not trail in three of their four wins.

In the first game of the week, a 19-point victory (110-91) over Detroit on Jan. 27, Mitchell recorded 21 points and six assists in 31 minutes. He followed that up with 34 points (14-23, 5-11 3FG), six assists and two steals in 30 minutes during Cleveland’s 20-point win (126-106) in Miami on Jan. 29. In Cleveland’s 22-point victory (137-115) over Atlanta on Jan. 30, Mitchell tallied 24 points, four three-pointers and six assists in just 27 minutes of work. In the final contest of the week, a 43-point win (144-101) over Dallas on Feb. 2, Mitchell helped the Cavaliers set franchise single game records for points in a quarter (50 in first quarter), points in a half (91 in first half) and three-pointers made for a game (26), while finishing with 12 points, six rebounds and six assists in only 24 minutes. That night, Mitchell also had a plus/minus of +47, which is tied for the highest by any Cavaliers player since 2002-03.

Named as a 2025 NBA All-Star starter, his sixth consecutive All-Star selection, Mitchell has appeared in 47 games (all starts) this season with averages of 23.7 points (21st-best in NBA), 4.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.40 steals (T-21st in NBA) in 31.1 minutes. He has also made a team-high 172 three-pointers, the fourth most in the NBA, and is shooting a career-high .398 from three-point range.
